Having a home birth and want your child to have a passport — without a birth certificate or SSN?

You chose home birth. You chose private birth. You chose not to register. You chose not to apply for a Social Security Number for your baby. Those are your private rights, and you’re not going back on them.

But your child still needs a passport — to travel, to identify, to live a full life. Every standard guide online tells you that’s impossible without a birth certificate and an SSN. It’s not. The State Department publishes a documented path under 22 CFR § 51.42 — and the SSN field on Form DS-11 has a published procedure for parents who don’t have one.

This is the playbook for that path. No registration. No SSN. No compromising your principles.

How the process actually works

Three pieces every parent needs to understand. The playbook walks you through all of them in tactical detail.

📄

Form DS-10

The State Department’s Birth Affidavit. Most parents have never heard of it — and most acceptance agents have processed fewer than one a year.

📁

Secondary Evidence

Religious records, school records, hospital records, family records. We show you what counts, what doesn’t, and which combinations actually get approved.

The Appointment

What to expect at your in-person interview. Word-for-word scripts, common rejection reasons, and how to handle an agent who’s never seen your case.

Built for parents. Whatever your situation.

Whatever brought you here, your kid needs a passport — and you need a clear path.

Common questions

Can I really get a passport without a birth certificate AND without an SSN?
Yes. Both procedures are documented and published by the federal government. DS-10 plus secondary evidence handles the no-birth-certificate side under 22 CFR § 51.42. Form DS-11 Field 5 has a published procedure for parents without an SSN — nine zeros plus a signed statement.

Is this legal?
Yes. We’re walking you through documented federal procedures — nothing more, nothing less. No loopholes, no workarounds, no theories.

I had a home birth and never registered. Is that a problem?
No. The State Department doesn’t require a birth to be registered — they require evidence the birth occurred in the US. Home birth, private birth, free birth, and unassisted birth all qualify under the secondary evidence path.

What about an ITIN instead of an SSN?
Covered in the Bonus module. The IRS issues ITINs (Form W-7) as a tax ID for people without an SSN. Many home birth families use ITINs for their children for banking and tax purposes.

Your child's passport. Without compromising your principles.

No state-issued birth certificate. No Social Security Number. No ideology layered on top. Just the documented federal path — for home birth, private birth, and free birth families.
